Let's just roll right into the picture story from Aubrey's birthday this weekend and forget that I've been AWOL for the past few weeks. And tell me, do you hate that I put the "caption" of the picture on the top instead of on the traditional bottom of the photo? I see it more as a commentary than a caption. (and maybe I like to instruct you what to think before I show you my pictures)
Aubrey has been requesting a butterfly birthday cake for as long as she could say "butterfly birthday cake." After I searched around for the perfect one to make, I was afraid she might have changed her mind, but sure enough, the morning of her birthday, she reminded me that she was getting a butterfly birthday cake. I may have been more excited about the final outcome after the time I put into them, but Aubrey's face (which we didn't capture soon enough) displayed much satisfaction with her Third-Birthday-Butterfly-Cake:
I'd make these sweet little cupcakes again in a heartbeat. They were really fun...and you KNOW that I'm really not into this kind of stuff...then again, maybe I am. One more proud picture please:
So, presents went mostly like this: opening plenty of pink girly girly stuff and big oohs and aahs and happiness radiating from Aubrey:
...Until it came to open Joel's present, which was an adorable mom and toddler doll-set which he'd specially picked out. She opened it and promptly announced "I don't like that!" and reached for the next present. (she likes it now - she was just a little excited about all the girly girly stuff and not in the mood for toys at the time)
Our friends, Mindi, Chris and Riley helped us celebrate and provided her with a make-up bag...complete with a makeover.
Thank you "Aunt Mindi!"
After all that makeup and after her announcement about Joel's gift choice, I was a little nervous to give her the Dora Backpack I had picked-up at Kohl's weeks ago and had been DYING to give her. Turns out, the Dora Backpack was her long-lost kindred spirit. She held it like this with her eyes closed for almost a whole minute. (notice the cheap-mommy-clearance tag?)
I am so happy to have my Aubrey. She is spunky and fun and keeps me on my toes.
